Our WTF Friday this week comes in the form of an e-mail sent by an actual professor at an actual college. It's painful on so many levels.
What the hell is going on here, dude? Our prof in question is a dude, by the way. We checked because we research our stuff before we start punching letters on a keyboard. Let's crunch some numbers, shall we, prof? Only one in ten heads of state is female. Less than eighteen percent of government ministers worldwide are women. I could just leave this at that, but ya'll know me. Can't pass up an opportunity to drive the point home! Figurehead monarchs, like good ol' QEII, are not included in the first statistic because they're not actually running a country. America doesn't have a female president yet! So far, two out of three of your examples are worth less than cow manure, man! You better hope Germany has a woman in charge--oh, wait. It doesn't. That's right. The president of Germany is Joachim Gauck, a dude. And Germany's parliament? Women make up a whopping forty percent of reps in the upper house and thirty-six and a half percent in the lower house. Just to drive the final nail into the coffin of how wrong this guy is, the U.S. houses are both twenty percent female or less, and Britain's houses are both less than thirty percent female.
The student's response to this bafflingly ignorant e-mail?
Looks like this teacher's just. been. schooled.
